In 1965, 95% of American clothing was made in the U.S.A. In 1985, the total was 70%. Today, only 5% of American clothing is made in the U.S. For generations, New York City’s Garment District provided more than just jobs – it was the lifeblood of the city. But in recent years, with the increased globalization of clothing manufacturing, this once-thriving district has continued to shrink.
