IONCINEMA.com Daily Recommendation

Rags to Riches to Rags (9pm ET/PT on HBO tonite) is one more example of the many industries that have exported the bulk of jobs to the East. Showcased at the recent Toronto Int. Film Festival, the Marc Levin (Mr. Untouchable) directed documentary film shows the history and the current jobless – but I wonder if it will illicit any kind of empathy from viewers? Drop us a line and let us know.

In 1965, 95% of American clothing was made in the U.S.A. In 1985, the total was 70%. Today, only 5% of American clothing is made in the U.S. For generations, New York City’s Garment District provided more than just jobs – it was the lifeblood of the city. But in recent years, with the increased globalization of clothing manufacturing, this once-thriving district has continued to shrink.
