Yesterday we commenced our countdown (we’ve got picks 100 to 81 listed below) and what might be noticeably absent is the more dramatic fair – we’ll get loads of these sort of genre films as the countdown gets to the midway point. What I like about the first chunk of films in our five-parter is that they are more difficult to categorize and they might not have an instant following. Apart from Valkyrie, The

Thunder, the rest of these films aren’t your typical bunch. They are difficult hybrids that don’t necessarily have built-in audience appeal and the lure of a star – in most cases these are first time filmmakers or novices.
