R.I.P: Ingmar Bergman

Published on

Unlike Woody Allen, the type of cinema he made never brought him major coin – but critical acclaim and accolades he deservingly had plenty. Often examining themes dealing with mortality, religion and specializing himself on relationship dramas where his principle players suffered through the wrath of life’s more tragic moments, Ingmar Bergman (1918- 2007) leaves folks who love their subtitles with a treasure trove of cinematic greats (many not surprisingly available in the Criterion Collection). Here are some of the more noteworthy titles from the father and grandfather of Sweden’s national cinema.
