Interview: Marion Bailey – Tender Loving Care

Date:

After one roundtable questionKate O’Flynn, journalists at the London BFI Film Festival had the chance to engage with Marion Bailey and Mike Leigh. Bailey, who has been a frequent film collaborator with Mike Leigh dating back to 1983’s Meantime, takes on the role of Birdie, the loving, pragmatic wife of Geoff and mother to Amy — we get a sense of the full backstory of a half-century lived relationship well outside the frame. I was curious about how satisfying was might have been to be in a portrait about two people in the type of dynamic where two people (for better or for worse) continue to choose each other. Bleecker Street releases the heartwarming Tender Loving Care on December 4th.
