Fantasia 2009: Robert A. Masciantonio’s Neighbor

Neighbor is a true blood-lover's delight, and the credit for this has to go to special effects makeup artist Vincent Guastini; what his team was able to accomplish on such a small budget is nothing short of phenomenal. Some of the scenes are so graphic that apparently one of the editors had to excuse himself while cutting the film to go vomit.

"...just watching JeeJa Yanin do her thing, being all meek and quiet one moment only to burst forth with fury and rage when confronted with injustice is a treat to behold. If you're into martial arts films, Chocolate is required viewing. The fight scenes are brutally beautiful, choreographed to perfection, and the story is a nice change of pace from what fans are used to.

Fantasia 2009: José Mojica Marins’ Embodiment of Evil

The long wait for a new installment in the Coffin Joe saga was well worth it as, by the time filming began, Marins was finally able to work without any fear of censorship. The result is a Grand Guignol tour de force that must be seen to be believed. Welcome back Coffin Joe...oh, how we've missed you.

Fantasia 2009: Lee Demarbre’s Smash Cut

Smash Cut is no masterpiece of the cinematic arts, but it sure is a fun throwback to the grindhouse days of 42nd Street, and if you didn't catch that reference, then you probably wouldn't enjoy the film.
