While several countries are still deliberating which film will represent them for the upcoming Foreign Films category at the Oscars, the Romanian National Center for Cinematography have announced their pic in Marian Crisan's Morgen.
This year, the Romanian director has another film included in the TIFF Romanian Days section. It’s his second feature, it’s a documentary (although not a classic documentary), and it’s called Bucharestless. The film was shot on miniDV with a $1500 dollar budget. Dorobantu is the director, the scriptwriter, the cinematographer and also the editor.
Cannes Film Festival won’t be lacking in Romanian films/filmmakers this year. La Source des femmes, the 5th film directed by Radu Mihaileanu, was selected to the official competition, while Mitulescu’s second feature Loverboy was included in Un Certain Regard category.
The biggest grant (over 480.000$) was given to (see above) Andrei Gruzsnizcki’s Evadarea (The Escape), the director’s second feature, after Cealaltă Irina (The Other Irina). Its story happens during winter so the shooting will start most probably at the end of this year and will continue in the first few months of 2012.
