2012 Cannes Film Festival Predictions: Israel Adrián Caetano’s Evil Woman

Date:

Gist: Known simply as Mala (Evil Woman), Israel Adrian Caetano’s revenge thriller features a young woman abandoned by her boyfriend who kills men who exploit or abuse women. Pints of the fake red stuff appear to be bountiful in this genre item. Film’s protags include thesps Rafael Ferro and Florencia Raggi.

Prediction: Part of Argentina’s New Wave, the Uruguay-born Caetano showcased his first film, Bolivia in Critics’ Week in 2001 (Young Critics Award Best Feature) and his last feature, Crónica de una fuga was part of the Main Competition back in 2006. I suspect a Directors’ Fortnight showing is not out of reach, but logically this could be delayed until the fall fests season begins with showings at Sitges and TIFF.
