IFC Films Not Afraid of Virginia: Perry’s “Queen of Earth” Finds a Lake Home

IFC Films have got themselves a case of cabin fever. The distributor have landed a title that could easily be programmed on their Midnight label, but if I were a betting man, will likely shore up on the home or Sundance Selects brand. Alex Ross Perry’s Queen of Earth will likely be a fall release and will be tied to a major U.S fest launch as it mysteriously didn’t show up at Sundance or SXSW, but found a spot at the Berlin Film Festival’s Forum section and subsequently landed international fests showings at CPH PIX, Buenos Aires, Barcelona’s D’A, Jeonju and IndieLisboa.

Gist: Catherine (Elisabeth Moss) has entered a particularly dark period in her life: her father, a famous artist whose affairs she managed, has recently died, and on the heels of his death she’s dumped by her boyfriend James (Kentucker Audley). Looking to recuperate, Catherine heads out to her best friend Virginia’s (Katherine Waterston) lake house for some much needed relaxation. However, once Catherine arrives relaxation proves impossible to find, as she is overcome with memories of time spent at the same house with James the year before.

Worth Noting: Cinematography Sean Price Williams has worked on all four of Perry’s features and has always worked on celluloid.

Do We Care?: From what we know this is a different beast than Listen Up Philip and it managed to get some thumbs ups from Berlin. We unfortunately couldn’t attend the film’s world preem – so we’re itching to see this one.
