Mystic Roots Revealed: Brady Corbet Readies ‘The Origin of the World’ with Selena Gomez

With Cannes just a month away, major updates on Brady Corbet’s highly anticipated fourth feature are likely imminent, but we’ve already received two early clues: a sense of the project’s sheer scale and the first hint at who might be set to topline. First tidbit comes from Deadline with his presence at Dublin’s Storyhouse to discuss screenwriting – he mentioned that The Origin of the World “is sort of about American mysticism and the history of the occult in America and I’ve been reading tons and tons of material about the migration of the cultist belief systems and structures.” and that the script is 200 pages…“It’s basically two, 25-day shoots for 100 pages.” Production is set to begin in July in Portugal and in South Africa. We are already lassoing this as a Venice 2027 Golden Lion competition film and we figure this too will come with an intermission. The other piece of news pointed out by World of Reel is that Selena Gomez is circling the project. We suspect that Corbet might be once again working with producer Andrew Morrison, cinematgrapher Lol Crawley and a score by Daniel Blumberg but that remains to be determined while Mona Fastvold surely co-wrote the project.
