Top 150 Most Anticipated Foreign Films of 2019: #86. The Day Shall Come – Christopher Morris

Writer-director Christopher Morris, who won a BAFTA for Best Debut with 2010’s Four Lions, despite having directed four episodes of the television series “Veep” over the past several years, has yet to unveil his sophomore project. The Day Shall Come filmed across the US, Santo Domingo, and Dominican Republic is certainly promising with a cast consisting of Anna Kendrick, Danielle Brooks, Jim Gaffigan, Michael Mays, Adam David Thompson, Rupert Friend and Denis O’Hare in what might potentially be in the vein of his debut feature. His latest is produced by Emile Sherman, Iain Canning and Anne Carey while Danish DP Marcel Zyskind (the regular cinematographer of Michael Winterbottom) lensed the film. Four Lions competed in Sundance’s World Dramatic line-up and won a BAFTA for Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director or Producer.

Gist: Little has been revealed about the plot, which seems to revolve around a botched FBI investigation resulting in a hostage situation.

Release Date/Prediction: One assumed Morris would be a shoe-in to return to Sundance 2019, but perhaps we’ll have to wait for a fall circuit premiere in TIFF (unless Morris happens to pop up in Berlin).
