Cannes 2012 Short Film and Cinefondation Selections

No better way to showcase the selections in both the Short Film Comp and Cinefondation than to announce the lucky few prior to the big announcement this coming Thursday. Head jury member Jean-Pierre Dardenne will have the pleasure to visit different parts of the globe in a relatively minuet time span – and you’d find that there are likely some future gem filmmakers in this year’s batch as previous names rolling back about a decade’s worth of selections include (in the Cinefondation) the likes of Aida Begic, Catalin Mitulescu, Annemarie Jacir, Vimukthi Jayasundara, Kornél Mundruczo, Corneliu Porumboiu, Marco Dutra and Juliana Rojas and Nadav Lapid, while in the Official Competition you’d find shorts from actresses Rie Rasmussen and Melanie Laurent, Jens Len, Alice Winocour, Pablo Aguero, Marco Van Geffen, Antonio Campos (also a Cinefondation fellow), Sam Taylor-Wood and Marian Crisan. Last year the Short Film Comp gave us a deserving winner of the Palme d’Or in Maryna Vroda’s Cross and the audience-pleaser Bear from Nash Edgerton.
