Lutz, Yelchin & Manning Top Obey Michael Almereyda in “Experimenter”

He isn’t wasting much time in post with Cymbeline. Joining the already cast Peter Sarsgaard and Winona Ryder, THR reports that helmer Michael Almereyda has found sideburn and stache wearing participants for Experimenter in Kellan Lutz, Anton Yelchin and Taryn Manning. And get this. Lutz will play actor William Shatner, who portrayed Milgram in a 1970s TV movie.

Yelchin plays Rensaleer, a man who resists authority. Manning plays Mrs. Lowe, a test subject who is distressed by the process and pushes back. Also boarding; Anthony Edwards as Miller, the first person subjected to the experiment, and Edoardo Ballerini as Milgram’s best friend. John Leguizamo, Dennis Haysbert, Josh Hamilton and Jim Gaffigan are all set up in the drama as well. Filming has already begun in New York. Producing are Uri Singer, Fabio Golombek, Aimee Schoof, Isen Robbins, Danny A. Abeckaser and Per Melita. Jeff Rice, Lati Grobman, Christa Campbell, Lee Broda, Claudio Szajman and Rogerio Ferezin are executive producers.

Gist: This tells the story of famed social psychologist Stanley Milgram. In 1961, famed social psychologist Stanley Milgram designed a psychology experiment in which people think they’re delivering electric shocks to an affable stranger strapped into a chair in another room.

Worth Noting: Long time in the works, this won the Script Development award at The Sundance Film Festival in 2008 as The Stanley Milgram Project and the Sloan Filmmaker Fund at the Tribeca Film Institute in 2009 as Experimenter.

Do We Care?: The challenge here is that we’re already heavily familiar with the infamous study, due to the wacko German thriller Das Experiment and Paul Scheuring’s little seen 2010 remake, The Experiment and alluringly, this includes a movie within a movie concept, potentially working from a screenplay more curious with the after-events.
