2013 Cannes Film Festival Predictions: J.J Abrams’ Star Trek Into Darkness

Date:

#87. J.J Abrams’ Star Trek Into Darkness

Gist: Part II in the new cycle, after the crew of the Enterprise find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction.

Prediction: Perhaps fitting since his hero Steven Spielberg is heading the jury this year, the fact only one major blockbuster title has been announced as the opening film and there is traditionally at least one blockbuster item added to the Out of Competition section with a world release date that falls exactly during the festival (in this case the Trek film receives a May 17th release) – my bet is on this item.
