2017 Sundance Film Festival Predictions: Mark Palansky’s Rememory

A Canuck filmmaker who found a mentor in Michael Bay in his formative years, Mark Palansky broke out with Christina Ricci fantasy film Penelope at TIFF in 2006, but only recently began lensing his sophomore feature last May in Toronto. Re-teaming with Peter Dinklage and co-writing with Mike Vukadinovich, we can call Rememory a new kind of crowdsourcing film as it invites regular folks to submit their own “memories” for usage. The film features one of Anton Yelchin’s last perfs, Julia Ormond, Henry Ian Cusick, Evelyne Brochu, Jordana Largy and Martin Donovan.

Gist: This revolves around a brilliant professor (Donovan) who mysteriously dies on the eve of releasing his life-changing invention. His wife, Carolyn (Ormond), discovers the device, which records and plays memories. With an unlikely friend (Dinklage), she uses the invention to get to the bottom of the mystery.

Prediction: If this is cutting edge, it could actually be a Park City at Midnight offering or Premieres category.
