2017 Sundance Film Festival Predictions: Max Winkler’s Flower

First rising to surface as one of the better unproduced screenplays on the 2012 Blacklist (it had the same number of votes as Whiplash and Hell or High Water) we aren’t too sure when Flower floated onto Max Winkler‘s lap, but lensing took place this past June with a cast comprised of Zoey Deutch, Kathryn Hahn, Tim Heidecker and Adam Scott. Prior to this coming-of-ager, Winkler handled with dramatic undertones, the admirable coming-of-ager Ceremony and has been working mostly in television land directing episodes of “The New Normal,” “New Girl,” “Brooklyn,” “Nine-Nine.” This could find a slot in the Premiere category or trickle into SXSW or Tribeca.

Gist: Written by Alex McAulay, this is about a sexually curious teen forms an unorthodox kinship with her mentally unstable step-brother.

Production Co./Producers: Rough House Pictures’ Eric B. Fleischman (Sleight), Brandon James (Hunter Gatherer) and Sean Tabibian (Ceremony), Matt Spicer (Carnage Park).

Prediction: An acquisitions title in the Premiere category.

U.S. Distributor: Rights Available. CAA (domestic). TBD (international)
