2024 Sundance Film Festival Predictions: Calvin Lee Reeder’s The A-Frame

Published on

Back in June of this year we were happy to report that Calvin Lee Reeder dusted off the cobwebs and got back into feature filmmaking with the announcement that he had gone into production with The A-Frame. So while they’d have to work overtime to deliver a final cut ready for January we’ve seen mad dashes like this before. A fave of Sundance, Reeder’s 2013 drifter drama The Rambler (read review) premiered in Park City and then landed at SXSW, and we could see the same strategic set up here with what falls into the sci-fi realm (and we’d wager a bit of dry humor). Johnny Whitworth, Nik Dodani and Dana Namerode are part of the cast. Behind the line we find David Wingo (The Bikeriders) on the score and filmmaker Zach Clark (Little Sister) on the edit.

Gist: A quantum physicist develops a machine that creates a tunnel between our universe and a sub-atomic parallel universe. In his quest to prove the machine’s efficacy, he inadvertently discovers a radical treatment for cancer when transporting rats between dimensions. He now recruits human subjects raising the stakes to further legitimize his effort.

Production Co./Producers: Cole Payne, Angelia Adzic, Vincent Grashaw, Ran Namerode.

Prediction: Next.

Sales: TBD.
