2016 Cannes Critics’ Panel Day 11: Paul Verhoeven Brings Loaded “Elle” to the Table

Published on

Elle not only sees Paul Verhoeven‘s long awaited return to the Croisette (his only ever Cannes showing being 1992’s Basic Instinct) but it also counts as a long waited return behind the camera — not since 2006’s Black Book and boy were those who did stuck around Cannes in for a treat.

Starring “an inimitable Isabelle Huppert” our Nicholas Bell says “the vehicle once again proves her to be a leading formidable talent, with a particular expertise when it comes to controversial portrayals of warped sexual expression. Their pairing is delectable, and marks a ravishing return to the screen for Verhoeven” while The Guardian’s Xan Brooks five star review states this is “uproarious, galvanic and guaranteed to spark debate”.
