2018 Cannes Critics’ Panel: Day 6 – Eva Husson’s Girls of the Sun (Les filles du soleil)

Published on

Eva Husson tackles some heady subject matter with her third feature, and first Cannes entry. After shoring up at TIFF in 2015 with Bang Gang (A Modern Love Story), starring Golshifteh Farahani and Emmanuelle Bercot, Les filles du soleil is about a Kurdish female battalion prepares to take back their town from extremists and the photographer following her around and who herself is running away or chasing her own demons.

Being paired or precluded by Cate Blanchett 82-woman Cannes red carpet ‘#metoo’ protest, this pro-woman, vengeance tale based on true events has a strong production design and performances, but this exposition heavy was a bust with a our critic set.
