2022 Cannes Critics’ Panel: Day 10 – Lukas Dhont’s Close

His Un Certain Regard selected debut film Girl claimed the Camera d’Or, FIPRESCI Prize, Un Certain Regard Jury Award for Best Performance, and the Queer Palm. For his sophomore feature, Close pairs new talents Gustave De Waele and Eden Dambrine with supporting perfs from Emilie Dequenne, and Léa Drucker.

A story about two buddies who are pushed apart due to what “onlookers” might think of them, we are given a text about the complexities of being culpable and what will be permanent scarring if left untreated.

A film that found a lot of love and a sprinkling of haters, all twenty critics weighed in for an average score of 3.5 — tying it on our chart with David Cronenberg’s Crimes of the Future.
