2023 Cannes: The Lucky 13 Critics’ Week Shorts Unveiled

And in the Critics’ Week second wave of film announcements, we now draw our focus on the short film competition which includes a firm ten selections plus a trio of special screenings with the most notable name of the bunch being Jehnny Beth the singer-turned-actress (she was the cam girl in Jacques Audiard’s Paris, 13th District) now turned director with her co-directed debut. In our estimation, the Critics’ Week short comp easily goes toe-to-toe with the Short Film Competition for the Palme and they unearthed several filmmaker names who major significant feature film contributions – Julia Ducournau is the first that comes to mind. Worth noting is that the filmmakers have the opportunity to join the Next Step Programme (a workshop for first features). Here are the shorts:
