Moroccan filmmakers Asmae El Moudir and Laila Marrakchi shared the €20,000 top prize ex aequo at the eighth edition of Marrakech’s Atlas Workshop, the industry platform dedicated to Moroccan, Arab, and African cinema. El Moudir’s Don’t Let the Sun Go Up on Me and Marrakchi’s La Mas Dulce, both currently in post-production, each received €20,000 in funding. We have to believe that both of these titles are going to try to break into the Cannes line-up next May. Hédi Zardi – the Head of Atlas Workshops and this year’s patron Cristian Mungiu were both on hand.
Among the development award recipients was Palestinian filmmaker Scandar Copti, who was granted €5,000 for his project A Childhood.
The 2024 edition of Atlas Workshop showcased 28 projects from 12 countries to an audience of international industry professionals, alongside 11 participants in the Atlas Station program. Awards were determined by two separate juries—one overseeing post-production prizes and the other development grants—with total funding distributed amounting to €120,000.
