Off Set 2018 TIFF Portrait Series: Girl

Published on

The first in our Off Set 2018 TIFF Portrait Series is Belgium’s Foreign Language Oscar nom in Lukas Dhont‘s Girl. The Un Certain Regard stand-out was coveted by programmers at the Directors’ Fortnight and Critic’s Week — and for good reason — as it went onto win the Camera d’Or (attributed to the best first feature film presented in one of the Cannes’ selections). After a pitstop at Telluride, the filmmaker descended into Toronto (Discovery programme) along with breakout performer Victor Polster and supporting player (the empathetic father character) Arieh Worthalter — an actor who is having a remarkable fall fest season with Elsa Amiel’s Pearl premiering at Venice, and Olivier Masset-Depasse’s Mothers’ Instinct having its world preem at Toronto as well.
