As we await the unveiling of the Golden Bear hopefuls, earlier today, the Berlin International Film Festival unveiled the fifteen features that will comprise the brand new Encounters comp section (a three-person jury will choose the winners of Best Film, Best Director and a Special Jury Award). Among the most anticipated items (noteworthy titles include the international premiere found to Josephine Decker’s Shirley, world preems for Matías Piñeiro’s Isabella and Tim Sutton’s Funny Face) we find the section opener in Cristi Puiu’s Malmkrog, (#27) a 200-minute drama.

Starring Frédéric Schulz-Richard, Agathe Bosch, Diana Sakalauskaité, Marina Palii, Ugo Broussot and István Téglás, this is about Nikolai, a large landowner, a man of the world, places his country estate at the disposal of some friends, by organizing a sojourn at the spacious manor house. For the guests, among which we find a politician, a young countess, a Russian General and his wife, time passes at the manor house with rich meals, society games and by engaging in a long discussion about death and the Antichrist, progress and morality.

We received the exclusive first look at the poster one sheet – click to enlarge.
