Everything Must Go … to TIFF

Date:

I had Dan Rush’s directorial debut pegged for a Sundance 2011 premiere, but the film which lensed last March, and completed filming in May, is in the can and ready for a red carpet debut at the Toronto Int. Film Festival. Thanks to the internets, we know that while promoting the release for Adam McKay’s The Other Guys, Will Ferrell told Charlie Rose that he was hitting the September fest with Everything Must Go. An announcement should be made shortly from the festival, and it’ll be high up on my coverage items this year.

Based on the 2007 Black List screenplay that happens to be an overwhelming favorite at a Scriptshadow, this is based on Raymond Carver’s short story “Why Don’t You Dance,” the dark comedy is about a recovering alcoholic (Ferrell) who falls off the wagon, and loses both his job and his wife. So he decides to live on his front lawn, selling all of his belongings in a yard sale and grappling with the larger existential questions about his life. Rebecca Hall, Laura Dern and Michael Pena are also part of the cast. Here’s an on location pic of Ferrell from the set.
