As Focus Features figures out how to make a buck with their new digital distribution initiative Focus World (a world cinema VOD and limited release label that competes against Searchlight’s Fox World Cinema) their trial and error venture will this time include plans to use the Tugg system to spearhead Nacho Vigalondo’s Extraterrestrial into select theater locations on June 15th. THR reports that the pic will have an initial theatrical release in Brooklyn and Seattle, open a week later in North Hollywood and then play Alamo Drafthouse Cinema locations in Texas in June.
Gist: Everyone knows what to do if one morning the sky would be absolutely full of UFOs: run as fast as you can. However, what would happen if the invasion started while you are in the flat of the girl of your dreams, the one you have just met?
Worth Noting: The film preemed at TIFF followed by screenings at San Sebastian, Fantstic Fest and Sitges.
Do We Care?: Apparently not much – our Nicholas Bell who reviewed the film at TIFF thinks highly of the filmmaker but not so much about the film “Nacho Vigalondo is a talent to watch for, but his second feature is an all too familiar love story with a sci-fi angles slapped on its rump. It’s a hook that fails to deliver. The result is a tad forgettable.”
