Alternative TIFF 2010 Picks: #22. Kim Longinotto’s Pink Saris

If I were to gather a group of top documentary filmmakers in the business and ask them to name who their documentary film heroes are, and I’d be willing to bet the name of Kim Longinotto would make the list. The eye-opening docu just got picked up last week.

The Gist: Acclaimed director Kim Longinotto is often drawn to tough women. Now she follows Sampat Pal Devi, the leader of the “Pink Gang,” who brings her own brand of justice to the streets of Uttar Pradesh, India, combating violence against women.
