Bertuccelli’s Family ‘Tree’ is Filling Out

Now going by the title of The Tree and being sold by Memento, the French-Aussie co-production is adapted from Judy Pascoe’s novel Our Father Who Art in a Tree and this tells the story of a family in mourning after the death of their father. It centres on 10-year-old Simone, who has recently lost her father and imagines him speaking to her from the top of the large tree in the family garden. Soon, her mother (Charlotte Gainsbourg) and brothers join in these nocturnal conversations, with the whole family perched on the tree-top, above the noise of the world and beneath the neighbours’ astonished gaze. I guess all that is left is the hiring of Simone
