I smell a Hollywood remake in the works. Single White Female frolicked with the idea, and for Brian DePalma, the doppelganger is a reference point of interest in his work, but Marina de Van’s Ne te retourne pas suggests that the notion is not lost and amusingly explored just in the release of a pair of trailers which I suggest you watch each individually..and then try watching them at the same time. The thriller which is set to debut in Cannes in a Midnight screening slot before receiving its theatrical release in France a week or two later.
Trailer 1: Sophie Marceau
Trailer 2: Monica Bellucci
Marina de Van‘s previous film Dans ma Peau – centered around a woman’s fixation over her body and problems with her body image. Ne te retourne pas plays with the theme of double identity by featuring Jeanne (Sophie Marceau), a married mother of two, who realizes that her body is changing and nobody notices but her. Despite being surrounded by people who make what’s happening seem less important as she thinks, Jeanne is convinced that something important is going on.
