IFC is Just Desserts for “Dog Eat Dog”

Date:

IFC Films – who’s company slogan should be “There’s no movie
we won’t buy!” – has again opened up their coffers, this time for the Columbian
crime thriller Dog Eat Dog. The film premiered at Sundance this past January.

The picture stars Eusebio Benitez and Blas Jaramillo as two
ex-cops turned criminals who commit a cardinal sin in any crime organization by
stealing their boss’s money. Of course said kingpin is none too happy and
resolves to “rectify” the situation with extreme prejudice. Judging by the
trailer, the film plays like a hard-edged version of Amores Perros. The look is
very much in Alejando Gonzalez-Inarritu’s visual style infused with Robert
Rodriguez’s panache for violence… an interesting combo. I think we can all agree
the lots of bad things happen when money, guns, and dogs are involved.
Unfortunately, those looking for dog on dog action will have to look
elsewhere – it’s just a metaphor here people.

IFC tells Variety that Dog Eat Dog should be released either
late this year or early next. Plans are for a day-and-date distro plan both
theatrically and on-demand. Blockbuster will also have the picture available
for rental thanks to their exclusive deal with IFC.
