Tarsem’s ‘Immortals’ gets Novelized

Date:

Based on their upcoming 3D film Immortals, Relativity Media and Archaia Entertainment’s Black Label division have teamed up to produce and publish a graphic novel anthology of the same name. On board to write and illustrate the novel are Ben Templesmith (“30 Days of Night”), David Mack (“Kabuki”), Ron Marz (“Witchblade”) and Dennis Calero (“Dark Tower.”) Immortals director, Tarsem Singh, is the helmer behind such visually stunning films as The Cell and another upcoming Relativity title, The Brothers Grimm: Snow White, therefore, the illustrators will in no way be lacking inspiration for the novel. The movie hits theatres 11.11.11, so we can expect to see the novel before or around the same time.

Gist: Immortals centers on the Greek warrior Theseus (Cavill) who is secretly chosen by Zeus to save his people from the evil Hyperion.

Worth Noting: Despite Immortals being shot in 3D, producer Mark Canton has been pretty outspoken about the use of the trendy format in films as of late and states the likes of Inception, 300 and Cowboys & Aliens as movies which look glorious in 2D. This is the same guy behind Piranha 3D – a film that James Cameron recently said was comprised of “inferior stereoscopic technology.” Canton went on to say “I disagree with Jim Cameron because ‘Piranha’ was a perfect 3D movie. I think that it’s the type of movie that you wanna feel like you’re in the screen. It’s a different kind of ride. Immortals [on the other hand] would look great either way. Tarsem is so visually superior to most filmmakers [long pause], but… we’re going 3D so get your glasses.”
Also worth noting is that Lily Collins has signed on for Singh’s Snow White meaning Addison Timlin’s chances of landing the female lead opposite Anton Yelchin in Odd Thomas just greatly improved.

Do We Care?: About the graphic novel? Not really, but we do have to agree with Canton and Relativity: Tarsem is definitely a director to follow and whether his films play in 3D or 2D, we’re excited.
