Opening this weekend is Michel Gondry’s Be Kind Rewind, which stars Jack Black
and Mos Def as video store clerks/buddies who attempt to recreate blockbuster Hollywood movies after a freak accident
causes their stock of V.H.S rentals to become erased. Gondry, who received an
Academy Award for his script collaboration on his 2004 film Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless
Mind,
began his career as a music video director, beginning with the French band Oui Oui, in which he also played drums. Gondry’s
classic Levis 501 commercial, “Drugstore” from 1994
holds the Guinness Book of World Records title
