#21. Cogan’s Trade

Director/Writer: Andrew Dominik
Producers: Plan B.’s Dede Gardner and Brad Pitt with Chockstone Pictures’ Paula Mae Schwartz and Steve Schwartz
Distributor: The Weinstein Co.

The Gist: Scripted by Andrew Dominik, this story is said to focus on a hit man’s point person. Jackie Cogan is a professional enforcer who investigates a heist that went down during a mob-protected poker game...(more)

Cast: Brad Pitt, Scoot McNairy, Ben Mendelsohn, James Gandolfini, Vincent Curatola, Richard Jenkins and Ray Liotta

List Worthy Reasons…: Fearful that Andrew Dominik’s filmography would be a snail paced one, a big thanks goes to Brad Pitt who essentially put the Aussie filmmaker right back on the map after a less than 4 million dollar domestic gross for his poetic 2007 sophomore pic, The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford. We’ve been fans of the helmer since his debut film, Chopper and hope that this criminal underworld, James Gray-like nocturnal set street pic is steel cold and gritty. Animal Kingdom‘s Ben Mendelsohn casting choice is spot on. One of the many Weinstein Co. anticipated 2012 releases.

Release Date/Status?: Dominik brought Jesse James to Venice and if the Weinsteins don’t have another menu item positioned for Cannes, then we can expect this to be a part of the Croisette.
