#64. Argo

Director: Ben Affleck
Writer: Chris Terrio
Producers: George Clooney, Grant Heslov and David Klawans
Distributor: Warner Bros.

The Gist: Written by Chris Terrio, this is about how the CIA teamed with the Canadian government to rescue six U.S. diplomats who’d been taken hostage at the American embassy by a group of Iranians in 1979 by pretending that they were part of a Hollywood film crew scouting a movie called “Argo.”…(more)

Cast: Ben Affleck, Bryan Cranston, John Goodman, Kyle Chandler, Taylor Schilling, Alan Arkin, Clea DuVall, Kerry Bishé, Tate Donovan

List Worthy Reasons…: A top 2010 Blacklist script (ranked right after Stoker and Margin Call) that Clooney’s politically inclined prod label Smoke House backed, after years of paycheck roles on action films and displaying his double duty skill-set on The Town, Ben Affleck is poised to deliver a career best here with a story that was especially gripping on paper and being accompanied by Rodrigo Prieto taking care of the Cinematography, one shouldn’t be surprised if we mention this during award season.

Release Date/Status?: A September 14th release perfectly timed for the Toronto Int. Film Festival.
