Why Warner Bros. is mum on release date details for Jean Pierre Jeunet‘s Micmacs à tire-larigot is a mystery to me. Judging by the trailer, this has got all the qualities we found in Jeunet’s previous films Le Fabuleux destin d’Amélie Poulain and A Very Long Engagement – the color palette, the almost fantastical approach to the moving camera comedic elements with a sense of humor – it also features Dany Boon who replaced Jamel Debbouze and his big ego (Boon’s comedy Bienvenue chez les Ch’tis was a huge money maker in French theaters last year). With an October release set for France, the big question becomes will we be seeing this at the premium autumn film festivals such as Telluride, TIFF and/or Venice? My guess is yes. Co-scripted by Guillaume Laurent and Jeunet, this is a satire on the world arms-trade that sees a man and his friends come up with an intricate and original plan to destroy two big weapons manufacturers.
