The Blacklist (a list of favorite unproduced screenplays making the rounds in Hollywood created by Franklin Leonard) acts as a good indicator of the best original ideas to come out of agents/rep offices and to come out of an industry which is too dependent on sequels, prequels and remakes. So far, we are past the midway point of 2009 and I was curious to update the 2007 list and see, mostly what went into production and which of the top tier scripts were greenlite.

I don't know you Tristan Patterson. But congrats for hanging in there. After having his screenplay optioned all the way back in 2003, it looks like Patterson will finally get to make his directorial debut with non other than: the next best thing in Carey Mulligan (read my top 10 faces of Sundance) and veteran Scot actor Ewan McGregor.

Call this a post-Oscars afterthought, but I think the inaugural 2005 blacklist for un-produced screenplays is working out to be a fairly good predictor/barometer in discriminating the output of quality films and misfires.
