TIFF's co-directors Cameron Bailey and Piers Handling have got us salivating with the smorgasbord list of world premiere offerings for next September. Opening film comes as a surprise, as we've haven't heard much about it, but seeing that doc filmmaker Davis Guggenheim has a great relationship with the festival, From The Sky Down a doc about U2 (20 or so years after Phil Joanou's U2: Rattle & Hum) will take centre stage. Doc-programmer guru Thom Powers makes sure that the fest will be a rocking good edition by also adding Pearl Jam Twenty from fanboy Cameron Crowe.

We complete our look at the key players in the Cannes market with the sales agent that has the most number of highly anticipated film projects. Wild Bunch came to the fest with popular items such as Polisse, The Artist and The Kid With a Bike, and it looks like they might outfit Venice and TIFF with some premium titles with Wong Kar-wai's The Grandmasters being one of the most sought after titles this coming August/September.

In give or take 364 days from now, the 65th edition of the Cannes film festival will be upon us. I know it's absurd, but there are some bonafide films in the works from some Cannes vets and according to these prognostications I supply below, we'll have one more heavyweight event with the possible participation from the likes of Abbas Kiarostami, Olivier Assayas, Paul Thomas Anderson and Hou Hsiao Hsien being joined by recent Palme d'Or winners (2008 and 2009) Laurent Cantet and Michael Haneke.

Before we unveil our most anticipated film of 2011, I figure we might want to emphasize some of the names that most frequently populated our Top 100 Most Anticipated Films list. Here is our version of 10 movers and shakers for 2011.

I've officially placed Heitor Dhalia's Adrift on my Cannes coverage list. The next big director to come out of Brazil (remember his name folks) is actually the director's third feature film outing, following 2004's Nina and 2006's Drained. The Un Certain Regard selection is set in the 1980s, and centers on a 14-year-old girl who struggles with her life when she learns of the infidelities of her father (Vincent Cassel) while undergoing her own sexual awakening.
