Most anticipated of ’07: 10-01

The “auteurist theory” is put into practice in our final TEN – and not surprisingly, 4 of the top 10 projects I’d wait in a line to see on opening day have no distributor in place for the U.S market. The ten filmmakers (make that 11 with the Coens) represent a global sampling of what one might consider challenging cinema. I hoped that you enjoyed this top 10, and same time next year we should have some talk backs/forums so you guys can tell me what was omitted. Bon cinema!

Getting ever so closely to the Top 10, our top 20 is filled with an interesting mix of heavyweights (Tarantino, Cronenberg, Boyle and Wes Anderson) and up-and-comers (Sachs, Gillespie, Tarsem, Perelman). Enjoy!

In today’s 10 piece, we got a trio example of filmmakers who’ve waited a while before making their sophomore induction. There is also a healthy representation of big studio films – not necessarily a sign of the times but perhaps an example of better script/project development.

In today’s slice we have a trio of films that were already featured at international film festivals and country of origin but haven’t surfaced yet stateside, and we have the Top 50’s only documentary film.

Besides taking my last year’s resolution and placing it at the top of the following year’s list of things I need to do, part of my habitual beginning-of-the-year practices is to look ahead at the year of film offerings, filter through all the crap that will come out in the next 12 months and make my most anticipated list.
