At the beginning of every month, IONCINEMA.com's "Tracking Shot" features a handful of projects that are moments away from lensing and in the same token, we feel are worth signaling out. We ring in the new year with nine titles going into production this month that are worth pointing out. Among the projects that were originally slated for January but are slightly pushed back we have Valerie Faris & Jonathan Dayton's Will starring Paul Rudd Zach Galifianakis, the new Stephen Daldry film Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close and Polanski's Carnage. This January can officially be called the "Abi Morgan" month as the scribe has not one but two projects that'll be lensed.

The Golden Globes award noms (a.k.a the "friendly" awards) have been unveiled and The King’s Speech leads with seven nominations while The Fighter and The Social Network following close behind with six noms each. The Comedy or Musical categories remind us why the show is more of a popularity contest than anything else, but knowing that we can still have contempt for the whole thing, we'll end up half-watching anyways when it airs next month.

Let me toot my own horn a bit. Of the 16 selected films out of 1,102 submissions, I accurately predicted 12. Out of the four that didn't fly on my radar we find American New Wave 25 selected Sean Durkin, who will make it back to back years in Park City. He featured the marvelous, creepy Mary Last Seen there, and would start lensing Martha Marcy May Marlene in the summer...but my thinking was he was Cannes-bound with this one...he may still be, but Sundance is world preem launching pad for the pic.

Directly after the Sundance labs in June, Durkin got ready on his feature length film debut titled, Martha Marcy May Marlene. The make-up of the cast has been revealed, with Borderline entrusting the film's lead to Elizabeth Olsen and filling out the cast we find: indie vet John Hawkes (who shifts to Soderbergh's Contagion next), Sarah Paulson (mostly television work but also in The Spirit), Hugh Dancy (most recently from My Idiot Brother - which we'll see next year) and Brady Corbet.

This August, we profile David Michôd, who when asked to be profiled was (still is) in the midst of a lengthy promotional screening/press junket tour for his directorial debut, Animal Kingdom which will receive a limited release in New York, Los Angeles on August 13th via Sony Pictures Classics.
