After a long stint of solely flexing his comedic acting muscles, John C. Reilly is poised to come back to dramatic terrain. Sources tell us that, he'll play Kenneth Waters, the brother behind bars to Hilary Swank’s Betty Anne Waters.

2009 Sundance Film Selections: Spectrum Dramatic

Because the Dramatic Main Competition category can only hold so many titles, the Spectrum becomes a second option for Sundance staff to include some more dramatic fair. 12 of the 16 selected are world premieres (I caught Johnny Mad Dog at Cannes and missed out on Lymelife at TIFF) from returnee directors such as Sterlin Harjo, Jeff Lipsky and Bobcat Goldthwait.

2009 Sundance Film Selections: U.S. Dramatic Competition

As expected the debuts from Sophie Barthes, John Hindman and Cruz Angeles will be the make up of 16 film selection (read my predictions here). I'm already familiar with at least half of the projects as with John Krasinski’s debut and Adam Salky’s feature length film project but of course, the rest were completely off my radar.

Germany's Oliver Hirschbiegel and Denmark’s own Lone Scherfig and Nicolas Winding Refn are among those representing their latest works in the World Dramatic Competition. The selection committee had the crazy task of bringing down the total number 1,012 submissions down to 16.
