IFC Films' TIFF shopping might not be complete, as the distrib picked up the rights to Pierre Thorentton's Yves Saint Laurent: L’Amour Fou. The French language docu on the fashion icon received it's world premiere screening last September at TIFF and will be released theatrically sometime next year.
Gist: Yves Saint Laurent built one of fashion's most celebrated empires. This chronicles his rise, his
lifelong partnership with Pierre Bergé and their decision to auction off a lifetime of precious art and objects.
Worth Noting: This won Fipresci International Critics Prize for Special Presentations at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2010.
Do We Care?: Despite it receiving a huge world preem showing at TIFF, we pretty much blinked and forgot about the title in September, but post-fest it managed to win a prize that we deem to be a strong indication of the film's quality and though we prefer the marriage of fashion and film in samples such as I am Love and A Single Man, we've found that fashion and film on the docu format can be surprisingly alluring and for distributors, can be profitable.
