2012 Cannes Film Festival Predictions: Helene Fillieres’ Tied

Date:

Gist: Olivier Assayas’ Boarding Gate was inspired by the true story of Édouard Stern (the infamous elite banker who was found dead in a latex suit) and now with Tied (“Les adores” – the French title that the Wild Bunch folks might change), we have appear to have a less “deviated” translation of what might have occurred, with more of an effort to explore the power struggles and the relationship aspects in this S&M bondage affair. Featuring Benoit Poelvoorde and Laetitia Casta as the banker and the mistress, titillation might be served both hot…and cold.

Prediction: A mid-year French release is expected for the film in its domestic run, so if ready in time, this could potentially turn the Critics’ Week upside down. The section has a history of presenting French actor/actress-turned first time filmmakers, and it would be fitting showcase for two decade experienced thesp (most recently seen in Nicolas Klotz’s Low Life) Hélène Fillières’ debut. IFC, who recently bought the title, would especially appreciate a Croisette showing.
