It’s been almost a decade between fiction feature films for Argentinian filmmaker Iván Granovsky, who premiered Los territorios at the International Film Festival Rotterdam in 2017. Prior to this, 2011’s documentary-fiction hybrid Glorious Accidents (co-directed with Marcus Lindeen) was his first venture into filmmaking. A producer for Matias Piñeiro and Mauro Andrizzi cinema and curator at the CATAPULTA lab at FICUNAM from 2019 to 2023 in Mexico City, a bit of geopolitics, auto-fiction, and blurring the lines with documentary, Granovsky put together quite the cast for his ambitious sophomore feature. Here is everything we know so far for (working title)… Iván Granovsky‘s Jealous White Men (aka Celosos Hombres Blancos).
An Argentina/Portugal/Italy/Brazil co-production, we first caught wind of this project back in 2019 when it was supported by the HBF Script and Development fund. More recently the project was featured at the Venice Gap market in 2024, made its first casting announcement a year later during Cannes market and would move into production this past May in 2026 in multiple locations. Production would have taken place in Galápagos, Brazil, Madeira, Portugal and Torino, Italy.
Written by Granovsky and Mariana Ricardo (from almost all of Miguel Gomes cinema), this satirizes history through dueling narratives by Jules Verne and his wife Honorine, each recounting young Charles Darwin’s journey to the Galápagos — a voyage teeming with pirates, pink iguanas, and a riotous mix of chaos, discovery, and revolt. The filmmaker says he is “obsessed with mentally broken childish white megalomaniacs from past and present”.
As is the case with most projects, sometimes players drop out and are substituted. Chiara Mastroianni, Denis Podalydès, Jasmine Trinca and Ariane Labed were once attached, but this confirmed hefty ensemble includes Guslagie Malanda, Nahuel Pérez Biscayart, Damien Bonnard, India Hair, Bruna Linzmeyer, Cleo Diára, Isabél Zuaa, Daniel Elias and Agustina Muñoz.
The production team is comprised of world producer people in the likes of O som e a fúria’s Luis Urbano, Ambar Film Company’s Agustina Costa Varsi, Biônica Filmes’ Karen Castanho, Frutacine’s Iván Eibuszyc, Pandora’s Christoph Friedel, Ring Film’s Tommaso Bertani + O som e a fúria’s Granovsky, Sandro Aguilar, Biônica’s Bianca Villar, Fernando Fraiha, Pandora’s Claudia Steffen, Ricardo Goncalves, Mia Liang. Seeing that production just concluded on this tragicomic adventure, this will be ready for 2027 with prestige fests in mind – this could be a Golden Bear comp entry at the Berlinale and all key sections on the Croisette are also first look options. No sales agent is currently attached.
