Gist: A tad bit more mellow than 2009’s Looking For Eric, and working once again with a familiar backdrop in Glasgow, the Paul Laverty and Ken Loach tandem are no less poignant in their assessment of the working class Britain. Tagged as a “bittersweet” comedy (which could draw comparisons to The Full Monty), this is about a second chances and involves a crew of former Loach players in John Henshaw, William Ruane, and Gary Maitland alongside a batch of newcomers.
Prediction: Along with the hardworking Woody Allen, Loach is showing no signs of slowing down and is also a mainstay with the festival with a tally of fifteen Cannes appearances, four wins, including the Palme d’Or for The Wind That Shakes the Barley. That differentiates him from his American counterpart is that his films receive Main Competition status. Will this comedy receive the same slot as his 2009 film?
