Interview: Jordan Firstman – Club Kid

Date:

I first took notice of Jordan Firstman through his memorably self-lacerating performance in Sebastián Silva’s Rotting in the Sun. So when his directorial debut was selected for Un Certain Regard, he was already a known quantity, at least on screen. With Club Kid, Firstman turns toward a more intimate, emotionally grounded drama, playing a fading New York nightlife promoter whose carefully constructed world is upended by the arrival of an unexpected visitor. After a buzz-worthy festival run that included Toronto, I caught up with the filmmaker at an A24 press junket to discuss how the experience of working on Rotting in the Sun shaped his thinking about the possibilities and limitations of filmmaking.
