Ong Bak 2 Finds a Home

Date:

Magnolia made close to five million dollars in box office receipts from the first edition of what will eventually become a trilogy (part three will be lensed later this year), but grabbing the sequel was a little more tricky. The Weinstein Co. had reportedly grabbed Ong Bak 2 for their Dragon Dynasty label in 2007, but somewhere in between that deal and today’s date, the Weinsteins’ lost interest, Tony Jaa went reportedly missing and the film preemed two months ago in its own market.

The film that sees Jaa play a young man who uses his martial art skills to combat against the forces of evil, has now changed hands and has ended up on the perfectly fitted Magnet label.  The Thai import definitely has a core niche of fans and if Magnet is smart — they won’t wait too long as downloading might take a chunk of the profits.
