Film in Pictures: Lee Chang-dong’s Poetry

Here are the images (and Korean poster one-sheet) for Lee Chang-dong's Poetry. His 6th film will be in Cannes' Main Competition and will be known as the project that brought Jeong-hie Yun out of retirement. The popular Korean actress retired in 1974 and moved to Paris.

Pablo Larrain and Patricio Guzman are this Year’s Chilean Representation in Cannes?

I'm convinced that Larrain will once again be at the festival this year with Post Mortem, a story that is also juxtaposed against Pinochet's early rule. And speaking of Chilean presidents, Patricio Guzman who might be known for his 2007 documentary film Salvador Allende, has directed Nostalgia For Light - a doc film that received what I think was French financing and which could be a sidebar or a special screening offering at the festival.

Cineuropa have produced a deluge of other probable titles that neither IONCINEMA.com, nor Screen Daily or for that matter any other trades have mentioned in their predictions lists for the biggie festival next May. I think some of the names/titles aren't better than pure specuIation, but are informed guesses.

A Wealth of Hungarian Helmers Headed to Cannes?

Normally the flag colors of red, white and green would announce a strong cluster of Italian films, but I think this year's edition of the Cannes Film Festival might include my previously announced predictions of seeing Benedek Fliegauf, Kornel Mundruczo and Bela Tarr, but Cineuropa is adding one more name to their list in helmer Agnes Kocsis.

Film in Pictures: Andrucha Waddington’s Lope

Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu's Biutiful will receive a Main Comp spot, and keeping with the Amores Perros connection, we might get a first glimpse of Gael Garcia Bernal in Iciar Bollain's Even the Rain, but the one title that hasn't been tossed around as a likely candidate for the croisette is Andrucha Waddington's Lope.
