Top 100 Most Anticipated Films of 2012: #27. Matthew Porterfield’s I Used to Be Darker

Talk about having this project tattooed to his heart (and arm - see pic above) - one of our U.S indie filmmaker revelations to watch out for is helmer Matthew Porterfield. His sophormoe feature, Putty Hill was a major hit at several film festival stops in 2010 (where we meet up with him for this viral interview) and the pic was not surprisingly mentioned on several top lists of the year 11'. He didn't waste anytime putting this project together - in one of the most funniest crowd-sourcing pleas, and we're kind of excited for this project in the way thousands incomprehensibly fell for music-imbedded in narrative Once.

Top 100 Most Anticipated Films of 2012: #28. David Cronenberg’s Cosmopolis

Supplied with a strong Euro and North American cast, apparently Cronenberg's adaptation of Don DeLillo's work is fairly strong. The novel is a modern re-interpretation of James Joyce's Ulysses smack dab in NYC's corporate world.

Top 100 Most Anticipated Films of 2012: #29. Nicolas Winding Refn’s Only God Forgives

We often discuss performance, image, sound and a distinct voice in what makes the measures of a great film. Refn check-marked all these boxes when he made the cinematic wallop known as Drive. One of the highlights for 2011, the union between Ryan Gosling and Nicolas Winding Refn might provide one more cinematic gem for 2012, that is if they get back together quick enough.

Top 100 Most Anticipated Films of 2012: #30. Untitled Mark Jackson Drama

In our interview with the filmmaker, Jackson described this as an "emotional sequel" to his debut, which we classify as a one of 2011's best American indie filmmaker feature film debuts. Without generated the kind of critical buzz that helped the film take a life of its own, from top tier fall film festival invites to nominations from both the Gotham and Indie Spirit awards.

Top 100 Most Anticipated Films of 2012: #31. Pablo Larrain’s No

Huge fans of both his second (Tony Manero) and third (Post Mortem) features, we hope that Larrain's subversive, edgy style in all things related to his beloved, politically challenged Chile somehow continue with this project -- which appears lighter in tone and boasts the good-natured Gael Garcia Bernal (an actor we like best when working with more challenging, auteur-driven material as recently witnessed in The Loneliest Planet.
