Film in Pictures: Sergio Castellitto’s Twice Born

I couldn't help but cringe at the notion of a reunion project between director Sergio Castellitto (see final pic below) and muse Penelope Cruz - but then again, anything can top the dismal, 2004 relationship drama Don't Move. Expectations are indeed low for Twice Born - as it appears to be a big reveal in the final 15 minutes type of flashback-forward sort of drama, but it has got Emile Hirsch and Cruz going for it.

Film in Pictures: Lou Ye’s Mystery

Though I thought Lou Ye's last picture, the 2011 Toronto Film Fest preemed Love and Bruises was a grating, basically unpleasant piece of art-house cinema, I'm indeed curious as to how the auteur went about creating this murder mystery. After his five year ban, Mystery is his film shot in China revolves around an investigation into the mysterious death of a young woman involved with a married businessman.

Stranger than Fiction; Jonah Hill and James Franco to Both Play Finkel in ‘True Story’

Brad Pitt's prod co. Plan B appear to have pulled True Story from the back-burner - the book that is described as "a spellbinding tale of murder, love, and deceit with a deeply personal inquiry into the slippery nature of truth" hit store shelves in 2005 has (according to Deadline) found its cat & mouse/victim & victimizers in a pair of A-listers.

‘Blue’ in the Hair; Lea Seydoux To Topline Abdellatif Kechiche’s Graphic Novel Adaptation

She has built a solid career resume in a very short time span with Christophe Honoré, Bertrand Bonello, Quentin Tarantino, Raoul Ruiz, Woody Allen and Michel Gondry's upcoming, "The Foam of the Days," and now Lea Seydoux is set to topline Abdellatif Kechiche's film adaptation of Blue Is a Hot Color.

Cinema Guild Grabs Award-winning ‘Planet of Snail’

The Cinema Guild folks have picked up the prestigious 2011 winner of the IDFA's Best Feature-Length Documentary Award. A portrait that will likely leave makes waves on the upcoming festival circuit (not unlike the IDFA's previous winners in Last Train Home, Burma VJ, Stranded) Seung-jun Yi’s “Planet of Snail" will receive several local U.S festival showings (e.g. Hot Docs, Silverdocs) this Spring and Summer before receiving its theatrical run.
