Interview: Gabriela Cartol – The Chambermaid (La Camarista) | 2018 Marrakech Intl. Film Festival

Published on

In the film festival year of 2018, there were a pair of films hailing from Mexico that broached a text that relates to elitism, classism, and a certain servitude. The Chambermaid wears its social politics of its uniform’s sleeves via a text about an almost unground day to day operations of the hospitality industry via the no-name army of folks who keep a several star hotel afloat. In the Lila Aviles’ directorial debut, the hopes and dreams for a better future are witnessed in the quotidian of Evelia played by Gabriela Cartol. We met the team at TIFF (check out our portrait series), and then got the chance to meet the lead while at the 2018 Marrakech Intl. Film Festival. We get into her background in film (which includes training in the U.K), discuss how she landed and how she prepared for the part.
